In India, the ceremony where the bride and groom exchange rings is called 'Engagement'. It's basically a brief ritual where the couple exchanges rings. This is followed by exchange of gifts between the families. Gifts such as dry fruits, sweets and etc. The bride is given jewellery, clothes and make up. These ceremonies are performed differently in different parts of the country and are evn called by different names; such as aashirwad ceremony, chunni chadana, sagan ceremony, magni etc. However, the essence of all these ceremonies are the same. It then concludes with blessings of elders. It is all held in a very traditional manner, commemorating numerous rituals as per the ancient vedic era.
Engagement Procedure:
Sankalpa and Poonyahvachanam Request by the Groom's father for the bride's hand for his son. His approval.
Grooms father reconfirm the proposal.
Bride worships Shachi for the success of the future marriage.
Bride and Groom exhange their rings.
Formal engagement announcement, blessings, congratulations. The ceremony lasts for 1 hour. Materials:
