The WEDDING.

The following steps are followed by different sects of Indians.

  • Vara Satkaraah

The entrance of groom and bride in the wedding hall where the officiating priest chantsa few mantras and the brides mother blesses the grrom with rice and applies tilak (line on forehead) of vermilion and turmeric.

  • Madhuparka Ceremony

Reception of the bride-groom.

  • Kanyadan

The bride's father gives away his daughter to the groom amidst chanting mantras.

  • Vivah-Homa

The sacred fire ceremony, ascerting that all auspicious undertakings have begun in an atmospher of purity and spirituality.

  • Pani-Grahan

The groom takes the right hand of the bride in his left hand and accepts her as his lawfully wedded wife.

  • Pratigna-Karan

The couple walk around the fire, the bride leads and takes vows of loyalty.

  • Shila-Arohan

The mother of the bride assists her to step onto a stone slab and counsels her to prepare herself for a new life.

  • Laja-Homah

Puffed rice offered oblations into the sacred fire by the bride while keeping the palms of her hands over those of the groom.

  • Mangal-Fera

The couple circles the sacred fire seven times, this aspect of the ceremony legalises the marriage according to the hindu marriage act.

  • Saptapadi

Marriage knot symbolised by tying one end of the grooms scarf with the brides dress. Then they take seven steps representing nourishment, strength, prosperity, happiness, long-life and harmony and understanding respectively.

  • Abhishek

Sprinkling of water, meditating on the sun.

  • Anna-Praashan

The couple make food offerings into the fire.

  • Aashirwaad
